Why Restaurant SEO is like cooking a Souffle

Restaurant SEO

Souffles are something that I really struggle with.  I follow the recipe closely, I set the oven temperature just right, I try not to beat the egg whites too much, but the result is usually a complete disaster.  The kitchen is a mess, there is very little rising in the souffle and the taste is usually ordinary at best.  It is often the same case with Chefs doing the SEO on their website.  Restaurant SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is making sure that your website is found in Google and other Search Engine results.  Like me cooking a souffle, getting SEO is a complicated process.  You may pick some keywords, but are they present in the copy, in the metatags, are they the right terms and how well are they working?

Why do Chef’s struggle with Restaurant SEO?

The difference between Restaurant SEO and cooking a souffle.

With a souffle, you know straight away if you’ve nailed it or not.  It is light and fluffy, spilling over the sides, and has an amazing taste.  As you can see, my souffle, was heavy, had not risen and the taste was pretty ordinary.  I didn’t end up eating it.  With Restaurant SEO though, many Restaurant owners don’t know if it is being effective or not.  Too many have an “SEO guy” who assures them that they are doing really well.  Poor SEO is can be the silent killer for a Restaurant.  We wrote a while ago about a Restaurant that failed because of their website had no text on it whatsoever.  After the Restaurant was sold at a loss of over $200,000, a new chef came in, got a website with great SEO, introduce a menu with higher costs and started to run a successful and profitable Restaurant.

We introduce our Marketing Metrics email for each of our Restaurant customers which means that at the start of every month each Restaurant gets an email detailing the traffic to their website, along with how they rank against hundreds of other Restaurants, so that they can properly determine whether their website is working for them or not.

Most Restaurant owners create great food, provide great experiences at a price that is great value, they just need some great marketing.

At Marketing4Restaurants we have created a range of tools to help Restaurants find new customers and turn them into repeat customers.

And don’t worry, we also have the recipe for great Restaurant SEO that works every time 🙂

Is Poor SEO Killing Your Restaurant?

Too many times we see customers with websites that are costing restaurants thousands of dollars every month through poor design, poor messaging and poor SEO. If your website could be improved to bring in 200 extra visits per month and just 10% of those made a booking, and each booking was for 2.5 seats on average at $50 a seat, you would have an extra $2,500 in revenue a month. A 30% food cost, that is $1,750 in profit extra a month. This ignores those customers coming back as regulars – which is more profit.

Remember, if these customers aren’t finding your Restaurant, they are finding your competitors.
